The Journey

We are confident that you will hugely impressed by the breathtaking scenery you will witness on our journey to and from, these two outstanding attractions of Banks Peninsula, which we will be visiting on our tour today.

Akaroa is the oldest Colonial Town in the South Island, and is still touched by the French influence of many of the early settlers The Harbour and the town itself nestle in the crater of a long extinct volcano and the scenery, as we drive out of the township and climb up to the summit road on the crater rim, is in a word "stunning", and at every turn in the road new panoramic vistas will unfold.

Manderley Farm Tour

Manderley Farm is situated at Little River on the shores of Lake Forsyth in the Bank Peninsula region, and has been farmed by Ross and Mary Millar since 1974.

The farm covers an area of 750 acres (300 hectares) and rises from sea level to 1500 feet. This stunning property has many spectacular vistas from bush clad hills to lake and ocean views, and is stocked by 1500 Sheep and 100 beef Cattle.

Manderley has been a popular Farm Tour for more than 20 years, attracting thousands of visitors from around the world.

You will marvel at the skill and almost uncanny partnership of Ross with his champion dogs, as they respond to whistle commands, some times at distances of up to half a mile, and with speed and agility gather a mob of sheep from the nearby hills and herd them down to where Ross and his guests are standing. This display provides many great photo opportunities along the way.

You will also witness a sheep shearing demonstration, and Ross will talk of his experiences farming Manderley for more than 30 years.

The Tour also includes a look around the homestead, originally built in 1876, and the beautifully landscaped garden, and conclude with afternoon tea served pool side

As we return you to your Cruise Ship, we complete a very comprehensive journey around Banks Peninsula, having driven out of Akaroa township, then climbed up to, and along the Summit road, and down into Little River, finally completing a journey of incredible and diverse scenic beauty returning to Akaroa at sea level travelling along the waters edge.

The Spectacular Akaroa Giants House

Another New Zealand Garden of Significance, but as different to Fisherman's Bay Garden, as chalk is to cheese.

This truly amazing creation reflects the passion of a very talented and flamboyant artist Josie Martin, who claims the two constants in her life to be horticulture and art.

The outstanding world class attraction which she has created, was born of her dream:

"To create a rich and unique, comprehensive art environment for all ages to ponder and celebrate the theatre of life"

Let our Tour South guide lead you to this special place of magic, right in the heart of the Akaroa township. Quite simply this is a world class attraction not to be missed when visiting this part of our Country.

The historic house and amazing gardens are located amongst native bush, with sweeping views of Akaroa Harbour, in an ideal setting that is romantically secluded and peaceful. Original artworks, terraced gardens' flamboyant sculptures and numerous dramatic mosaic features, all combine to create a stimulating visual experience.

The Giant's House is recommended by Lonely Planet, and endorsed by rave reviews by visitors from all parts of the world.

The house built in 1880 for the first bank manager in Akaroa, is constructed of locally milled native timbers. It is designed and decorated in the French style, and is elegant and charming, and like all aspects of this truly magical creation, is grand in size proportions and unique features.

Being the home of an artist, it balances and contrasts the historic and the contemporary. Both the house and the unbelievably awesome terraced gardens are full of surprises of the very best kind. Expect the unexpected at the Giants House.

At the Giants House your senses will be pampered and stimulated in surroundings that will uplift your soul. A very special experience which is quite 'out of this world'

The Giants house is positive and colourful - seriously playful yet charming and elegant - it will make you smile - it will lift your spirits.
